La Bohème, Opera by Giacomo Puccini – Vienna State Opera

Giacomo Puccini’s opera La Bohème, first performed in 1896, is one of the most marvellous and tender love stories in opera, as well as one of the most tragic. Based on Henry Murger’s Vie de Bohème, the opera tells the story of the passion and pain of terminally ill Mimi, who is granted only a short happy spell with the poet Rodolfo. Puccini’s opera is captivating and touching thanks to the detailed portrayal of the characters and the refined tonal language. In his legendary production, director Franco Zeffirelli has recreated the colourful world of the Bohemians, and the animated friendship of the artists, philosophers and students.Sat. 07 Nov 2015, 7 p.m.
